Meet The Editor: Jaimie Cordall
Meet The Editor!
Mini Interview!
Editing
How did you become Kristy's editor?
I met Kristy around 8 years ago at the University of Lincoln where we both studied English together. At that time she was still working on the first drafts of The Kiss That Killed Me, and was collaborating with another editor. As our friendship grew, she sent me a copy of her manuscript once it had been edited. I found a few errors that had been missed, and she was impressed! She then hit me up when she needed her second book editing, and we’ve been a partnership ever since.
What is your favourite thing about editing for Kristy?
It keeps my brain ticking! My days can be long and tedious with feeding, changing nappies, tidying, cleaning, cooking etc… sometimes I feel like I’m just coasting through life. But when I get sent a manuscript, I set aside time to work on it and it gets the cogs moving again and blows away the cobwebs. I look forward to being able to take a break from motherhood to be Jaimie the Editor for a couple of hours. I don’t have much time for reading anymore so it allows me to get back into it.
Which has been your favourite book to edit?
Probably either Vexed or Indigo Dusk. I love Vex and Azure together, and I really enjoyed editing/reading it because not only did they finally get together, but I had actually been to all the places they visited. After living in Lincoln for the best part of three years, it felt familiar and special seeing some of my favourite characters visiting the places I knew so well. On the other hand, I’m obsessed with Elves and Fae, so Indigo Dusk was such a pleasure to read and edit. I also think that The Aetherial Embrace Trilogy will have some of the biggest twists yet, so I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Which has been your least favourite book to edit?
Tough question! I think I’ll have to say… Something Blue. ONLY for the fact that I knew there wouldn’t be a follow up. I adore that story, and felt the ending could have been expanded and carried on perhaps, but I knew that Kristy only intended it to be a standalone novel, and that made me sad.
Make-up!
Tell us about your love of makeup!
After giving birth to my first child in 2018, my life changed dramatically. I hated my new body; after pushing out a small toddler (9lbs) I didn’t exactly bounce back very well. My hair fell out, everything was saggy, I had stretch marks, I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror, and at the age of 25, I ended up with Postnatal Depression. Luckily, I found a health and wellbeing company that helped me find myself again, and my passion for makeup was born. I began channelling my creativity through the medium of makeup, and created an instagram profile to document my progress. This massively helped my recovery from depression, as I could take a couple of hours a day for myself and focus on creating something beautiful. My confidence and self-love grew massively. My favourite time to do makeup is definitely Halloween as I love dressing up. One day I’d love to do a huge Comic-Con!
Cult Resin!
Tell us about Cult Resin!
So Cult Resin became an idea in November 2020. I had seen a lot of people creating jewellery from polymer clay but I wanted to do something different. I wanted to create beautiful pieces that were super affordable, and build something that would allow me to spend as much time at home with my girls as possible so I didn’t have to go back to work for someone else and miss out on them growing up. I asked my partner for supplies for Christmas and began brainstorming name and product ideas.
In January 2021, I launched my little business and didn’t expect it to be so popular so soon! In just three months, I’ve made 104 coasters and 75 pieces of jewellery. I’ve sent my products all across the UK, and to Canada, Northern Ireland, Astoria (where The Goonies was filmed) and sunny California. I’m so grateful for all the love and support. I can’t wait to start producing more home décor pieces, and I’m super excited for Halloween jewellery/decor later in the year.
When I told my Barista, Jess, that I was looking for a long series to hold my attention, she was flabbergasted to discover I’d never read the Sookie Stackhouse novels, or seen the show True Blood, which is based off them. In between customers who had come in for their daily dose of Botany and Beans magic, she got up google and started showing me some of the ovary-busting hotness that is the male half of the True Blood cast. Colour me intrigued. I found myself downloading the first book there and then, right in the coffee shop. This is my review of the first instalment, Dead Until Dark.
