Life Lately With Kristy Nicolle- March 2023

Can you believe it’s March already?

I wrote the last Life Lately post in December, and it feels like a week ago, not twelve! Quite a bit has happened in the last 3 months, so I thought I’d so a little update post. After all, things can get so busy, it can be nice to look back and reflect on things once in a while.

How can readers support their favourite indie authors?

I’ve found that while authors are spending hundreds and even thousands of dollars to get eyes on their work, the only thing you need to do as an author is explain clearly what you want existing readers to do and a lot of them have no problem sharing, recommending, or spreading your content among their social circles. Not only that, but it’s FREE and arguably more EFFECTIVE than any other kind of marketing. I mean, I’m ten times more likely to pick up a book if it’s recommended to me by someone I know, as opposed to by Amazon’s oh-so-famous ‘Also Bought’ algorithm.

My point… a lot of these readers are seriously untapped as a resource, as the majority I speak to want to know how they can help, but are either too intimidated to ask, or worried they’ll do something wrong.

So, I thought I’d give these wonderful people some failproof ways to promote your favourite indie authors!

Let’s get started!

Literary Travels: Exploring the bookish in Bath, England

Having just returned from an amazing couples weekend away in Bath, also known to the Romans as Aqua Sulis, I have been treated to some seriously unique, beautiful, and inspiring literary locations that not only stock books for sale, but that have been instrumental in the creation and understanding of some of today’s favourite classic stories. From the Roman myths and how Bath has helped us understand the ancient civilisation which worshipped deities such as Minerva and Ares, to the town which inspired the classic works of Jane Austen, Bath is both an intellectual, aesthetic, and historical treat I was not prepared for.

So, I thought in the spirit of everything still being fresh in my mind I would share some of my favourite Literary Locations in the incredible Bath, England with you!

2018- My year in Review

It’s been one hell of a year!

My second trilogy completed, my first two signings attended, two brand new diagnoses, new medication, a visit from my best friend, who crossed the Atlantic, just so we could meet for the first time, and a personal best on all counts listed above! It’s been a busy, grueling, testing year, but according to the figures, my best one yet as an indie author.

Outlining- A Brief Guide

Outlining is the cornerstone of many writer’s creative processes, mine included. And while some people like to wing it (to any pantsers out there, I salute you) I have been a plotter, and always will be, especially when you consider the scale of the project I’m working on. Outlining for me is crucial, and if I do it right, it saves me a shit ton of work and brain power down the line when I’m trying to focus on an individual scene. So, let’s have a look at the parts of my outlining process and how I have managed to craft the stories which you guys praise so highly.
