Prompt my pen is a super fun feature I run whereby my reader group The Infiniverse Explorers suggest visual prompts and i pick my favourite to write a flash fiction, poem, or short story each week.

The Escape Artist

It rattles her bones like bars,

Hungry for release.

The universe in chains,

bound by flesh,

and mind,

and pain.

She stays awake all night,

 Angry linguistics beating on her skull.

Trapped within veins,

it thrums,

a call to the canvas of war,

endless and loud.

Inescapable,

and yet

escape is the only answer.

You must sit down,

slit your wrists,

and bleed. 

Your soul flowing freely crimson to the white page. 

An artist in escape,

an escape through art.

Breathe in the blankness,

and begin.

Words fly free from you as inky butterflies, now. 

Fluttering into the atmosphere of profundity

and the silence that irrevocably follows.
