Prompt My Pen- Azreal's Assistant
Prompt my Pen…
Prompt my pen is a super fun feature I run whereby my reader group THE TIDAL TELLTAILS suggest visual prompts and i pick my favourite to write a flash fiction, poem, or short story each week.
Here’s this week’s prompt!

Azreal’s Assistant
By Kristy Nicolle
Tangled in toe tags,
claws extended to cut,
As I myself snip the strings of the soul.
He twines in my rib cage,
purring where once my pulse did thrum.
Keeping my cold organs warm,
his mewl is the only song in my heart.
Sharpening his own half-moon sickles
upon the handle of my scythe,
I sigh.
His darkness pounces upon the shadow of my cloak,
tripping me,
unaware of my mission
as we approach another morgue.
He has captured my heart,
with his tremoring whiskers,
his sweeping smoke-like tail.
But I am not alone.
For he is also the one thing,
that can calm a soul,
as it crosses from this world,
to the next.
Little do they know,
That in letting him lead them away,
I am continuously letting him back in again,
only moments later.
Extraordinary soul,
Yet typical feline.
It is not ghosts that howl in the night,
but the meow of my assistant,
dashing across the landing of limbo.
For when is a better time to rave,
than the witching hour,
that is also their last?
His name,
I declare with pride.
Mr. Tibbles.
