Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo- My Review
After reading Ninth House, the first book in the Alex Stern Series by Leigh Bardugo, I was immediately drawn to book two. Even though book one didn’t exactly end on a cliff hanger, the Darlington story arc left me seriously wanting. Luckily for me, and totally unintentionally, I had just finished Book One when Hell Bent released on the 10th of January 2023. I was so relieved when I discovered this, because the thought of waiting a year or so to go back to Yale was almost unbearable.
If We Were Villains: My Review
I am a huge fan of The Secret History By Donna Tartt and also a huge fan of dark academia in general. I got a big hit of the genre from Babel by R.F. Kuang earlier on in the year, but apparently it wasn’t enough! I’ve been seeing this cover floating around Instagram and Tiktok, and when in the mood for something dark and thriller-esque for the end of 2022, I couldn’t resist starting this. It’s been on my TBR for a while, but as soon as I heard dark academia meets Shakespeare I was sold.
The Poppy War Series: My Review
Introduction: Another day another review. Following on from my review of Babel, I will be reviewing The Poppy War, also by R.F. Kuang- I have a bit of an obsession at the moment!
I picked up the Tiktok Sensation after, surprise surprise, seeing it toted on Tiktok as the Historical Fantasy Debut of the year. This book was everywhere on social media, and after I found out the trilogy had concluded with the third book The Burning God, and none of the bloggers were threatening to string up the author by her ears, I decided to give it a go.
